MD-005 SS86 Optimus Prime
“My God, it's full of accessories!”
As I have mentioned before I can’t have a Megs without a Prime and vice versa so I never bothered with the original SS 86 Prime (plus I really got out of mainline figs) but since I bought SS 86 Megs, I had to find a Prime. I heard about this and checked out a couple of reviews and I think with all the stuff it comes with for the price it seemed worth it.
Took about a month to get it and even having watched a couple of reviews, the amount of stuff you get with guy is incredible, especially for the price. I messed with him a bit after opening just for a QC check, tried a few of the gimmicks and honestly couldn’t wait to get him set up for pics.
Not having the original, I went with alt mode first. I guess it’s OK as far as the cab goes, transformation is pretty involved for a main line release but with this guy there are a few things “mis-transformed” out of the box in bot mode so going to truck I had to watch a review and you get no instructions at all so I had nothing to reference. I added Autobot & Decepticon logos where I figured they were needed. I guess one thing to note is that this comes with rubber tires instead of plastic and seeing how you get 2 sets of windows, I opted for the blue transparent ones for alt mode and will do the cell shaded for bot mode. For this mode you get the effects same as the original for “blasting” off the ground when transforming, blast effects for the repair drone and comes with Roller, not much else I can really say about alt mode.
Robot mode is impressive and seems to have a decent amount of heft for a plastic figure. Well maybe heft is the wrong word but it’s solid and the joints are really good by comparison to SS86 Megs, not loose feeling at all. Articulation is off the hook for a “main line” figure especially for what you get out of the shoulders.
Since there is so much you can do with this figure, I had to break it up into 4 different galleries otherwise it would probably be 80 pics in one post. I honestly took well over 150 pics and whittled it down to what I have and worked on it over the course of a week.

I just got the MD005 (KO of Studio Series 86), and honestly, I’m really impressed. The figure feels super solid — great materials, no loose parts, and everything holds together perfectly. The joints are tight, which makes posing and handling it really satisfying.
The transformation is smooth and smartly done. To be honest, Hasbro’s designs lately go from too simple to just plain bad, but this figure shows how good the concept could have been when executed properly. Every panel and part fits perfectly, nothing feels cheap or forced, and it’s actually fun to transform.
The price I paid feels totally fair — honestly, it’s what the official one should cost. This version fixes a lot of the flaws from Hasbro’s release and beats it in every way: better materials, more accessories, and a much better price-to-quality ratio.
Overall, this KO is simply superior. Kudos to the manufacturer for taking a mediocre Hasbro design and turning it into something genuinely enjoyable. Definitely worth getting if you’re on the fence.

It's Studio Series 86 Prime, with more accessories, for almost half the price. Plastic quality is better than you'd expect, it has far less gaps than the official toy, and it didn't come misassembled out of the box like the official toy. Though they could've done a bit better on color matching for the painted red parts, they kind of stand out since they're a lot more pink. And after Hasbro's announcement of a Dreamwave continuity Prime (the one that has Megatron's arm) at a $80, that just makes this version even more worth it. Genuinely a fantastic figure, the only real problem being that I'll have a hard time deciding on how to display him. All that's left to do is pick up some logo stickers from ToyHax to make it perfect.

I’m extremely happy with this purchase. The team at TFSafari was very helpful on when my item was coming in stock when it was a delayed for a month. Tracking number was confusing at first but once I read the instructions about it I was able to follow the progress with no problem.
This Optimus Prime blows the official Hasbro/Takara’s version out of the water. With the extras that come with this , the price you’re paying is extremely generous for how low the price is.
If you can get one of these I suggest getting it while you still can.

This MD-005 set is the best G1 Optimus Prime figure available on the market right now.
The plastic, build quality, and paint applications are all exceeding better than Hasbro's Studio Series 86 Optimus Prime.
Screw hole covers and the rubber tires on the semi section of MD-005 is a nice improvement over the original Hasbro mold.
MD-005 also comes with a whole tray of amazing accessories, most notably the Skybound arm and optional head sculpts.
The only thing you miss from Hasbro's Studio Series 86 Optimus Prime is their figure has a glossy finish to the plastic compared to the flat look of MD-005.
Some people may miss the same faction symbols Hasbro placed on their 86 Optimus Prime but now you have the option of placing the correct cartoon and 1986 movie style Autobot faction symbols on MD-005.
Yes, oddly enough Hasbro put the wrong toy style Autobot faction symbols on their 86 Studio Series Optimus Prime.
MD-005 has a much smoother transformation than 86 Optimus Prime and the pieces lock together much better too. The trailer section is great quality and functions perfectly.
MD-005 is a legendary set that will be remembered as one of the best G1 Optimus Prime figures in history.
For the more affordable price of MD-005 you get a sturdy mini masterpiece G1 Optimus Prime that is loaded with accessories and superb craftsmanship.

Very high quality, looks and feels as good as Studio Series 86 Prime. I love all the accessories and think this figure is an amazing value. The redesigned thighs fix the unsightly seam down the center of the official. My only two criticisms are that the color matching on the red paint on the leg parts that become the ladder on the cab in truck mode isn't as well matched to the red color of plastic as SS86 and that when using the Megatron arm there is no way to attach the cannon vertically on the back of the truck mode.

Straight up the best KO I've ever bought. Plastics feel phenomenal, paint is good, nothing is too loose or too tight and it's 50-60$ for something that was originally 90-100$ and includes a ton of extra stuff. Great quality and even better value.
If I had to complain about two things, I don't like how you can't remove his windows. You make a choice when you first get him and once inserted, that's it, you're stuck with that choice. Also, the extra heads are great, but he can't transform with those on. That's probably my biggest bummer. Everything else about this figure feel so intentional and thought out, this feels like an oversight or afterthought. Hope the later repaints fix this.

I've always wanted a Megatron arm for Prime and I wanted a better more accurate Prime head. I was going to look for an add-on kit for those two, but with the price of them, I thought I would be better just to get this, since it has what I wanted and more. I was so glad I bought the initial run as it was only $50, and for that price, it's worth it. The prime figure is far more superior than the original Hasbro release. All the issues with that figure have been rectified and improved upon. I love all the accessories you get. The playability is there. If you haven't bought the original yet, then I would totally recommend getting this instead. Sure the price is now $65, but I'd say even at that price, it's well worth it. I have always complained about KO being inferior to the original, but this is the first time I can unequivocally say that this is KO far surpass the original. Even if you have the original, I'd still recommend getting this. Reserve the original to alt mode and put this in bot mode. That way you can change his looks at your whim, from fake Optimus Prime Starscream, to comic book Optimus Prime with Megatron arm, to putting different head to fit your style. Did I mention there is blast effect for Megatron's gun and it lights up with a magnet, battery included. One of the very rare time that I give a purchase a 5/5 and this is one of them. Such a great figure. Hasbro should be ashamed of themselves for selling their prime with all those issues.

Wow! I was expecting a cheaper knock off with some pretty cool accessories . This is solid and has great joints. It is heavy. I do not have the original, but it cannot be much better than this quality wise. Then there are the accessories. There are so many things you can do with this. They are all easy to integrate, and they are super fun. This may be one of my favorite figures I have bought in several years .
