The Origin Toys OT-01 upgrade kit is designed for the “Age of the Primes” Prima figure. At around $25, it’s relatively inexpensive compared to many third-party upgrade kits on the market. I originally picked this kit up after buying the DNA Design upgrade kit for the same figure. While the DNA kit is solid, I felt it was a bit overpriced for what it included. Combining parts from both kits ultimately helped me achieve my preferred look for the character. The OT-01 kit comes with a generous number of parts. It includes gap fillers for the arms, legs, and torso, which help clean up some of the hollow areas on the base figure. There are also shoulder pad extensions, arm guards, and leg armor that bulk up Prima’s design and give him a more armored appearance. For accessories, the kit includes two armor panels that can combine into a shield, two swords (one blue and one silver), and a blaster. Another highlight is the inclusion of two alternate heads. One is an original design, while the other is based on Prima’s appearance in Covenant of Primus. Both look more distinctive than the stock head and help give the figure a stronger identity. Installation is straightforward, and everything attaches seamlessly to the figure. The parts fit nice and tight, and the overall plastic quality feels very good, especially for the price. The molding and durability are comparable to more expensive kits. The color matching is near perfect. The whites, blues, and greys are almost identical. My only real issue is that Prima’s base figure is primarily white, but most of the upgrade parts are grey. Because of that, adding a large number of grey pieces can clash with the mostly white body, at least to me. It’s not a deal breaker, but aesthetically it stands out more than I’d prefer. If Origin Toys ever rereleased this kit molded primarily in white plastic, it would be perfect. Overall, the Origin Toys OT-01 kit is a great value. It adds useful gap fillers, extra armor, new weapons, and alternate heads at a very reasonable price. Despite the color, the quality and amount of content make it an easy recommendation for collectors looking to enhance their Age of the Primes Prima figure.
