Newage H72 Typhon (Ankylosaurus) is a beautifully designed figure with excellent sculpting and very refined mold details. The textures, proportions, and overall presentation clearly show the high level of care Newage put into this release. Although this combiner doesn’t belong to the G1 universe—which is the style I usually prefer—I have to say it’s a fantastic and very enjoyable combiner. In many ways, it feels like Newage listened to its fans and customers and learned from what happened with their Devastator. With Volcanicus, they addressed several key points, such as improving the support and stability of the limbs across all extremities, resulting in a much more solid combined mode. Another major improvement is the central component. Instead of being a non-functional shell like in Devastator, Newage gave it real purpose by turning it into an additional Dinobot, adding both character and play value to the set. Collectors who dislike “partsforming” may still have complaints, but I’d encourage them to give this one a chance. It might help them start seeing partsforming from a different perspective. Overall, this is a very well-thought-out combiner and a strong release from Newage.

Do Dinobots combine? No. Should Volcanicus exist? Definitely. I know some purists who don't want to see the Dinobots combine, but I for one am okay with it. I have two sets of Dinobots from Newage, one toon deco and one toy deco. Since I like the look of Volcanicus in toon deco, I decided to by this combiner kit. If I like it, then I might get another set for the toy deco. Anyway, back to the review. On looks alone, Volcanicus looks really bad ass. He looks bulky and menacing. Love is weapons and shield. Love his head scupt and light up feature. His transformation is not too hard, since it's 90% part-forming. Articulation is pretty good since most of it is part-forming. Is he perfect, heck no. Swoop connection to the right arm is very loose and can come off easily. The elbow joint that is made up by Slag is very weak and can barely hold up the sword without drooping. Volcanicus head connection to Grimlock back is very weak and any kind of manipulation of the head can make it come off. Also, the battery enclosure inside Volcanicus head is sealed off. I had to cut it open in order to put the battery in. Not sure if someone had forgotten to do it or if it's a design flaw. Even with all the flaws, I am still glad I have him in my collection. For the price, I don't think I will buy another set for my toy deco. BTW, I didn't transform him into his alt or bot mode because I didn't care too much for. I bought him for Volcanicus and that is where he will stay. If you have only 1 set of Dinobots, then I don't recommend him. Enjoy your Dinobots in alt or bot mode. Even if you have more than one set of Dinobots and you don't really care for Volcanicus, then save your money. For the price, I think you will only enjoy it if you enjoy Volcanicus.
