Really good figure, only thing bad about is that it’s missing a screw in it’s right leg, but besides that it great.
ai-ling .
I really liked the LOOK of this, but getting it in hand has put me off of it due to the incredibly fiddly transformation that resulted in several hours of frustration with trying to get the thing to stay together in alt mode.
The character wasn't a big draw for me, so it was primarily the look of the car that motivated my purchase. I always like a bot that doesn't betray it's alternative forms in either mode, and this seemed to be one that disguised both well. But moving from the way it was shipped to the alt mode even once has proven enough for me, and now that I finally wrestled it into the form I bought it for, it's going to stay that way for fear of never getting it back again.
The reasons it didn't quite gel together are a bit of mystery, but it simply was an unpleasant experience to handle it because it kept coming apart at a previous point by the time I managed to get the last panels secured properly. Maybe the plastic is too soft, and it is pliant enough that it shifts the tolerances for tabs matching up easily. I found my fingers sore from tugging and pulling and pushing at various points to encourage things to line up more exactly, only for them to pop out immediately upon shifting the position to the next step. The leg popped off that hip joint more times than I want to think about, and the head, and the piece of rear bumper in the middle, and the red pointy flaps at the top of his chest plate. It felt SLOPPY, like a KO made on the cheap, rather than a figure with two modes and a three figure price tag.
That's most of my beef with it, really. It wasn't coming across as worth the price of admission, and I think that other figures I have gotten have been much better value for similar money. Is this figure supposed to be die-cast as well? I couldn't find any metal on it. The plastic is maybe purposefully softer and flexible due to terrible contortions you have to put it through to pass pieces by each other that don't clear in a sensible manner. It is cringe inducing to force some of the bits to behave. The whole front end kept disassembling itself because tabs don't line up with holes without some stress on the parts. The double hinges getting set up right for alignment is a real challenge, and I found myself snickering in sympathy with the various youtubers who would devolve into muttered displeasure at the same points of irritation with the thing as I tried to follow a better example and found none.
At one point I accidentally popped one of the flappy chest bits right off the pin that was holding it. Fortunately the plastic just allowed it to release from stretching because its not brittle enough to break, but it was a pain to put back in.
Meanwhile, I got a very inexpensive Dropkick just because I liked the look of the blue muscle car and that was actually FUN to fiddle with in putting him into his vehicle mode, surpringly enough that I noted it out loud as I completed the task in a tenth of the time it took me to get Stinger sorted.
It's a nice looking thing once its together, but it fights the whole way through it and it will absolutely FEEL like its breaking even if it ultimately doesn't in the process. I'm mad at it mostly because it feels like a cheap copy rather than a premium priced item. If it cost half as much I might be less irritated, but it isn't in the same class as even some of the better more inexpensive toys.
Not sure what commands the cost, as it does not seem to be the material quality or manufacturing. There's a lot of edges that aren't real clean on it that might be interfering with the tolerance for lining up the tabs. Ultimately, I had to use more brute force than finesse, due it's relative elasticity that made it uncomfortable to with and unable to tell if it was supposed to be so difficult or not. Some things probably weren't spinning easily that ought to, and that meant other things were pretty loose and floppy for being repeatedly manipulated incorrectly to compensate for that.
It's a chore to transform, because nothing stays where it should. Not sure what the remedy is for that, whether to lube it or tighten it up. So its staying on all four wheels for the foreseeable future. I will enjoy playing with my other figures I ordered.
I wouldn't recommend this one at the prices being asked. This was purchased here as the least expensive I had seen by a significant margin, and still I think it was not pulling its weight for that dollar value. If you must have it, I suggest waiting for a ko to make it better at a lower cost, or getting it used on a deep sale.
It would be a 3 star figure for me, but the price point makes that unacceptable, so it loses one more for value. Neat idea, poor execution leaves something to be desired.

The figure is really great, the shipping service was also really good, the package came in in perfect condition. As for the figure it's a really good update to the original version of ut red destroyer. If you have the original I'd say keep it but if you don't this is definitely the better version in terms of paint. However, with more paint (the silver accents) it leads to more paint chips and I've suffered a bit from those. Overall a really outstanding figure.
